Our History
In 2003, Jimmy Yang, Jim Fagelson, and Clark Hahne founded Newport CH International in Brea, CA, in partnership with Canusa Hershman Recycling, to begin trading scrap paper products primarily with China. With Canusa's initial financial support and scrap paper supply, combined with the extensive relationships established by Newport's founders, the business quickly gained momentum. As China emerged as the worldโs leading importer of scrap paper, our export volumes increased rapidly. By 2006, we became one of the first trading companies to export scrap steel in 40' containers to Asia, although this segment eventually declined, and we ceased shipping steel in 2014 due to market changes.
In 2010, we expanded into trading scrap plastics, exporting recovered materials for processing in Asia, and became a leading marketer of plastic scrap. Our team has grown to over 40 employees in our corporate office, with additional staff in the field and our Nanjing, China office. Newport CH is consistently recognized by the U.S. Journal of Commerce as a top export shipper.
As we look to the future, Newport CH is committed to continued growth and innovation, embracing the challenges and opportunities within the global recycling industry.
