Our History

In 2003, Jimmy Yang, Jim Fagelson, and Clark Hahne founded Newport CH International in Brea, CA, and along with our partner Canusa Hershman Recycling, started trading scrap paper products primarily to China. With Canusa’s initial financial backing and scrap paper supply, and with the many relationships that Newport’s founders had worked with for many years, the tons began to flow. China was becoming the world’s leading importer of scrap paper and as the dealings with overseas buyers increased, the volume shipped grew at a rapid pace. In 2006 we were one of the first trading companies to export scrap steel in 40’ containers to Asia. This business grew for a number of years and then began to taper off. We continued shipping until 2014, when it became apparent the markets no longer supported this commodity.

In 2010, Newport relocated to a larger corporate office in the great city of Orange in Southern California. In 2011, we began trading scrap plastics, exporting recovered materials for processing in Asia, becoming one of the top marketers of plastic scrap. We have since grown Newport to over 40 employees in our corporate office in addition to many more working in the field and in our China office. Newport continues to be recognized as a top export shipper by the U.S. Journal of Commerce

Newport CH looks forward to our continued growth, as well as facing the challenges in the global recycling industry, with a knack for creating new opportunities and innovations.
